Economic Research, Policy and Planning Division
Description:
The Economic Research Policy and Planning Division (ERPPD) is the technical arm of the Ministry of Public Utilities charged with the responsibility for developing and implementing policy, undertaking research and planning to provide strategic direction to and oversight of the utilities sector. This Division conducts its work through four (4) multi-disciplinary Units:

Trinidad and TobagoElectrical Inspectorate Division
Description:
The Government Electrical Inspectorate Division’s (GEID) primary responsibility is to provide inspection and certification of electrical installations in Trinidad and Tobago in accordance with both local and international standards. The GEID is also authorised to issue and renew wireman’s and projectionist licenses, and to investigate fires and injuries that may be caused by electrical faults, upon the request of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services, Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) and Insurance Companies.

Description:
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is responsible for providing meteorological information and advice consistent with international standards, namely the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, towards the pursuit of national, scientific, social, economic and cultural goals and sustainable development. TTMS produces and distributes weather and climate information to the general public and key stakeholders in sectors such as aviation, maritime, agriculture, tourism, energy, water and disaster management. The TTMS also provides early warning services for hydro-meteorological hazards such as adverse weather, floods, hazardous seas and tropical cyclones (depressions, storms, and hurricanes), which are used to trigger the Government's disaster counter-measures such as preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery actions.

Corporate Communications Unit
Description:
The primary responsibility of the Communications Unit is to develop and implement the Ministry’s communication strategy in support of Government’s plans, programmes and initiatives.
Legal Services Division
Description:
The Legal Services Division provides legal opinions, oversight and guidance to the Ministry and its agencies on various matters that pertain to their operations within a legal framework. The Division ensures that the Ministry adheres to sound legal principles in executing its functions and ensures that the Ministry fulfils all of its statutory obligations. Moreover, the Division also facilitates the advancement of the Ministry and its agencies legislative agenda as well as the examination of policy from a legal standpoint in relation to the utilities sector. Officers of the Division function as Instructing Attorneys to the Solicitor General and Chief State Departments for all litigious matters in which the Ministry is involved.
Customer Services Unit
Description:
The Customer Service Unit (CSU) is responsible for facilitating greater efficiency and effectiveness in the Ministry’s service delivery system. The Unit treats with all matters under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 1999, addressing Utility Complaints/Queries and the processing of Standby Generator Licenses for the approval of the Minister of MPU. Description:
The mission of an Internal Audit Unit is to provide independent and objective assurance to the Accounting Officer, the Services are designed to add value and improve the organisations operations. It helps the organisation in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a disciplined approach to evaluating the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control processes. The Head of the Internal Audit Unit reports to the Accounting Officer. The functions of the Unit is not only limited to auditing financial records but all aspects of the Ministry’s operations.

Monitoring and Evaluation Unit
Description:
This Unit is responsible for the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems for the Ministry, consistent with the Government’s mandate to provide effective and efficient delivery of the public utilities to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. The Unit’s primary functions include tracking the progress, outcomes and impacts of projects, programmes and policies, evaluating the Ministry’s performance and reporting on tis activities.

Description:
The primary responsibility of the IT Unit is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of all Units and Divisions within the Ministry through the introduction of Information Technology. The IT Unit will plan, recommend, implement, manage and support all technological initiatives, whilst providing the following key services to the organization; 1.
